SUMMER PROGRAMMES - 2024
Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE) will be conducting several activity-based summer programmes covering a wide age group of students. The programmes comprise lecture-demonstrations, discussion-based interactive sessions, working on the computers, etc. The schedule is as follows:
- Tiny-Tots
This is a five-day activity-based science programme for students who have passed classes III, IV and V, that includes simple science demonstrations and model making.
I Batch: April 2 to 6, 2024 Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
II Batch: April 2 to 6, 2024 Time: 3 pm to 5 pm
III Batch: April 16-20, 2024 Time: 10:30am to 12:30pm
IV Batch: April 16 to 20 Time: 3 pm to 5 pm
Number of participants: 25 in each batch
Fee: Rs.750/- per head

2. Fun with Science
This is a five-day programme for students who have passed classes VI and VII. Students are taught the basics of science through demonstrations and hands-on activities.
I Batch: April 22 -27, 2024; Time: 10:30am to 12:30 pm
II Batch: April 22 - 27, 2024; Time: 3 pm to 5 pm

3. Aero Modelling Workshop
This is a one-day workshop for students who have passed VI and VII. In this workshop, we intend to introduce the basic concepts of Aero Modelling, discuss the working principles of aircraft and make students to build a glider and test the working of the same. The completed glider will be a take away for the participants.

4. One Day Workshops for students
Three one-day workshops will be conducted for students who have passed classes VII and VIII.
i̤. Science of Instruments on April 14, 2024
In this workshop, children are shown some of the instruments / devices that are commonly used for measurements. The scientific principles on which these are constructed are discussed and demonstrated. The working of the instruments will be shown by deconstructing them.

ii. Recreational Mathematics on April 28, 2024
In this workshop we intend to discuss some of the concepts in Mathematics through interesting activities that provide the joy of doing Mathematics.

- Astro-computing
This five-day computer-based programme introduces students of classes VIII to X to methods adopted by astronomers to locate positions of asteroids, understand rotation of the Sun and other celestial motions using CLEA software.

- Astronomy through Apps
Astronomy is an observational science, but not restricted to only telescopes any more. You can learn about sun-earth connections, planets, stars and galaxies with apps on your mobile phone. A 3-day workshop has been organised for high school students, where selected Astronomy apps will be introduced with basic science concepts necessary to understand the techniques. Android device is essential to install and run the Apps.

- Summer Course for high school students
This is for students of classes IX and X on the topic "The Science of Sense Organs – Physical and Biological." This is a ten-day interdisciplinary lecture and activity-based course for high school students. Physical, chemical and neurological aspects related to sense organs will be discussed by scientists from various research institutions.

- From Web of Life to Universe
This is a ten-day programme for college students. This is aimed at motivating PUC and B.Sc. students towards research both in Physical and Life Sciences. Lectures for these courses are given by scientists from research institutes. The lectures introduce the students to fundamental ideas and frontier areas of research in various fields. Special lectures by medical practitioners about relevance of physics and biology to medical science also are scheduled.

- Universe in the classroom

- Teachers’ Training Programme
In this three-day workshop for high school teachers, we mainly focus on three broad topics in Physics: Mechanics, Optics and Electricity that is discussed in classes 8th, 9th and 10th of Karnataka State Board Syllabus. The discussions will be interdisciplinary and based on pedagogic principles.
